Coupons disappearing in shopping cart

How is it possible that I can add coupons to my shopping cart and when I go to pay they are no longer there? When I go to add them back it noe says Out of Stock.

Inventories are adjusted when someone checks out, not when something is placed in a cart. If it wasn't that way, someone could effectively crash our store by repeatedly putting items in their cart. What happened to you is we ran out of stock between the time you added it your cart and when you tried to check out.
