Time difference

What is the time difference between central time and eastern time. I live in Lafayette Indiana 47905 and I believe we are eastern time but we switch back and forth for daylight savings time which is very confusing.  Thanks for your help

1 hour...Central time is 1 hour behind Eastern time... 8AM EST would only be 7 AM CST.
I wasn't aware that it changed for daylight savings time!!!  That would be way too confusing!!!!  I would think you'd just turn your clocks back an hour in October like everyone else??
